The investigation group "Ferrum" (Latin for "iron") was established in November 2025 within the Police State Protection Department of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA) to combat increasing gun crime in parts of the city, according to the LKA. The background was a significant increase in shootings targeting business people, particularly those from the Turkish-Kurdish community, and their establishments. At the end of February, the investigation group "Telum" (Latin for "assault weapon") was additionally established at the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office, focusing on organized crime.
