Berlin Senator Evers has called for a central authority to oversee the city's IT and digitalization strategy following a cyberattack that disconnected parts of the city administration from the state network.
The cyberattack prompted the disconnection of the Senate Administration for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment (Senatsverwaltung für Mobilität, Verkehr, Umwelt und Klimaschutz) from the state network on the previous Friday, according to multiple sources including rbb|24 and dpa. The move was described as a precautionary measure to prevent the further spread of the breach within Berlin's administrative systems. The incident is the latest in a series of cyberattacks targeting German public institutions and has intensified scrutiny of the capital's digital defenses.
